Wtf am I getting?

Again, you are making leaps of logic with what I said.

You are approaching this from the perspective that I think all blue collar jobs are shitty and "beneath" people. That simply isn't true. Just as there are good and terrible white collar jobs, there are good and terrible blue collar jobs. There are wonderful and terrible employers in all markets.

If you find yourself "underpaid" then you should seek employment that is more in line with market rates. If you cannot obtain that alternative, there is likely a reason that will require action on your part. Improving your skills, doing your time "in the trenches" to get experience, additional training, doing a deep dive on your personal character, behaviour, or soft skills.

I didn't say it would be pleasant or easy. But the reason those wages or working conditions exist is because people, of some number, are willing to tolerate them and changing ones position is a larger perceived hurdle than enduring shitty working conditions.

One angle we're not mentioning here is the option to organize to change the status quo, but somehow the American culture has convinced the blue collar crowd that unions are communist and deplorable. But again, this would require effort and a willingness to change on the part of the worker, enduring short term shitiness for long term benefit.

And we as a species and culture really fucking suck at that.
