X-Files reboot with Mackenzie Davis as Scully and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as mulder

If I think about it from Fox execs' perspective, I wouldn't agree to any pay raise for GA, and I doubt she would even agree to that herself (she's made it clear that the show no longer interests her and I really don't think that's just acting), instead I would make the best of the loss of GA by reorienting the show in a way that I, as a Fox exec, probably wanted to do all along anyway: clogging it up with even more product placements, speeding up the pace, filling the screen with younger faces. The show has deteriorated to such a degree under Chris Carter that, provided Carter was not running William the Teenage Witch and they got today's version of a tongue in cheek Joss Whedon, even that show might potentially overcome its own built in flaws to be mildly more charming than late X-Files. But- and this is something Fox execs are doomed to understand too late- any show centered on characters besides Mulder and Scully would always fail as long as it's marketed under the X-Files name, which leads everyone to expect Mulder and Scully.

Both Carter and Fox have, unfortunately, shown limited understanding of the fact that for 99% of fans and casual viewers alike, Mulder and Scully = The X-Files. Paranormal stuff is cool but other shows do that. Aliens are done a lot. Mulder and Scully is what makes XF unique. For any X-Files continuation to be truly successful, Mulder and Scully will both need to be involved, and now that GA is out, a hard reboot is the only way to continue with these characters.
