2 Police officers shot near Ferguson Police Department

I don't understand why any non-black person would continue to live or work in Ferguson. Most of the black people there (not all) seem to have a hive mind that automatically pins the non-black person as the bad guy during any sort of altercation. I also feel truly awful for the good black people in these communities that want a better life.

My honest opinion is that the police are not the cause of the problems in Ferguson. I think there are 2 things that need to happen (that probably never will) in order for this community (and others that are similar) to change for the better:

  1. Black leaders need to stop telling other black people that they are victims, and need to encourage them to stay in school and work hard whilst strongly condoning violence of any kind. No matter how racist you think a non-black cop may be, if the disproportionately high amount black crime stops, so will the profiling.

  2. Ghetto gangster culture related media needs to be removed from society, role models do matter to impressionable minds. Someone should just go around passing out classical music CDs and Studio Ghibli films in these areas. Also, replace every trash television show broadcast with re-runs of Reading Rainbow.

I understand that poverty matters as well, but if you live in a culture where it's cool to blow your money on expensive rims and commit crime to gain "street cred" then no amount of money will ever change much. I have seen many places around the world that are much poorer than Ferguson/Detroit etc. yet they don't have these levels of violence/crime. Poverty does play a role in criminal activity, but criminal activity and a shitty culture will ultimately result in a life of poverty.

Waving signs that say "black lives matter" will do precisely nothing. We already know that they matter, as ALL human life matters. Anyone who thinks that they don't will not be persuaded by a sign.

You may not agree with everything I said but you can't argue with the fact that an increase in Reading Rainbow viewership would likely improve most communities.
