20 y.o. female, considered myself not very independent, went on my first solo trip abroad this month and it was a life-changing experience. Here's some things I learned and a bunch of short stories.

Thanks for sharing. As someone who was once an extremely anxious person and far too dependent on others to help solve any problems I faced, this resonates.

Solo travel really taught me to have confidence my ability to navigate difficult situations on my own, and to skip the “freak-out” stage when something negative happens and pivot straight to figuring out solutions.

I don’t know the secret to getting into that headspace for the first time, though. I see so many posts here of people who hit a rough patch in week 1 or 2 of a 4-week vacation, give up and go home. Maybe people just have to want something badly enough to break through that wall the first time - and honestly, there’s there’s nothing I enjoy more than traveling.
