$300M Puerto Rico recovery contract awarded to tiny utility company linked to major Trump donor

Butthurt WordPress fan/developer here. It's 2017, folks. Time to update our programmer humor and acknowledge that WordPress is not the dumpster fire it might have been (and that a lot of people would still love it to be). In fact, it's a pretty amazing open source software project that enables millions of people to publish stuff to the web who otherwise couldn't (ie. my parents) using free and open source software.

  • WordPress is a content management system - the most popular in the world, in fact and it powers a lot of sites you probably visit often.
  • It's used to publish around 28% of websites on the web (And that number's growing)
  • It accounts for about 60% of the content management system market share.
  • Anyone who criticizes WordPress for the way the sites it's used to publish look has a fundamental misunderstanding of what WordPress is - it doesn't care what your site looks like; There are hundreds of thousands of themes you can install but you can easily build your own to look however you want; the theme api provides complete control over the frontend.
  • Wordpress includes an awesome rest api out of the box now; you can build your frontend with react if you want.
  • Wordpress is a CMS - a publishing and administration tool - it is not a css framework or something.
  • The wp api and its documentation is among the best I've ever worked with and it's intuitive and learnable and a decent web developer can build robust applications with it. It's outgrown its role as a blogging platform in to a fullblown CMS.

Please direct your hate at Oracle and other poisonous proprietary software companies instead of amazing open source software with thousands of contributors and millions of users. They need it a lot more. :)
