Anxiety about kindergarten and "evaluations"

It was a flashcard test, and he didn't identify some of the everyday words, especially ones to do with clothing, and he was getting confused with "on" and "in" and "beside." A lot of the words we know that he knows, because he will say them independently, but he doesn't often do things when prompted. Everything else he apparently aced, like animals and cars, and they didn't test him on things like feelings and activities, things we think he's fairly good at. He understands directions most of the time, but gets a lot of joy out of refusing or doing the opposite. Ever since he was a baby he would laugh his head off if we asked him to say "dad" and he would say "mum" and vice-versa. If we tell him not to do something, he'll go straight to doing that thing while laughing hysterically. My wife and mother-in-law are very dramatic, so I think he gets a kick out of their reactions. I've tried to implement a lot of "positive parenting," i.e. praising and giving attention to the good and correcting but giving little attention to the bad, but I seem to be alone in following that technique, although my wife is at least trying (my MIL couldn't care less).
