Are they serious?

When I was a child in the eighties the church did give us food and we lived in low income housing. Fast forward to being an adult, I asked for food once after years of paying the church tithing and the Bishop I had told me that I would need to stop by the Bishop's storehouse and work for a few hours to cover the cost of what I was being given. The joke, I already was working fulltime.

Does the LDS church have job centers? Yes, but they're staffed by volunteer members who usually also work for a living.

Does the church have helpful networks? Yes, but some Mormon's do seem more friendly when they think someone might become a potential convert. Just like some members are nicer to people who are other members, not all but some.

his lack of generosity and initiative to help me when I’m wanting

  • Long ago I learned to differentiate between a want and a need. If you want something go earn it, don't expect someone else to provide it for you.

Are the members selfish or generous?

  • Depends on the person, I can be generous. But I don't need someone to take advantage of my generosity and people have tried in the past. I fixed a neighbors fence once (for free) because their dog had been chasing little kids down the block. So late one night I get a knock on my front door. It's this same neighbor and they told me they had a water leak. I asked them where it was. They didn't know and told me they would find out and come back. They came back after about 10 minutes to tell me it was in their basement. I asked them if it was hot or cold. They didn't know, more time passed and finally they came back and told me it was a cold water leak. I told them that was unfortunate and suggested that they call a plumber. Could I have fixed it? Maybe, but it wasn't my job. You give some people an inch and they will take a mile.
