I see the comparison your making and I think it's fair, but incomplete. I can't say to much about Sakurasou no Pet na Konojo, cause I've only seen 3 episodes, but I feel like the comedy ends at what you've said.
Mashiro is socially inept, because she's ridiculously talented. it's the social awkward genius trope we've all seen before and there's nothing wrong with that, but you have Sorata going "Are you kidding me?/WTF" and end. As the audience, we experience the reaction as the mostly down to earth and relatable MC Sorata and that's that.
Nozaki Kun's comedy to me speaks volumes and is layers deep. Chiyo has a good head on her shoulder. She's smart, normal, and makes logical decisions, so she is as you say the "straight man", but she is also the fool and we as the audience following the MC Chiyo are constantly made to question our own notions for how people should behave and are made the fool.
Her logic is based off of the fantasy in shojo manga that she reads as a high school girl. We as the audience also have certain expectations from society about romance and gender roles and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun shines a light on all that in multiple layers.
Ah that was pretty long and incoherent, but I tried. I used arguemnts in this article for why nozaki-kun is so clever and this person says it much better than me so give it a read.
Anyways, Imma give Sakurasou no Pet no Konajo another chance soon.
