Being fat is not a disability.

Actual fat guy here, who also has a disability. The disability is not fat related, and while it may have help cause me to grain more weight over the years, I am not going to use that to excuse a lack of willpower and discipline.

My disability affects my outer limbs, making the nerves there slowly degenerate and weaken. At the moment I need large nearly full leg braces to walk--which are easily hidden by a pair of baggy jeans--and have had to relearn to use my hands or carry special tools to do something as simple as button up my shirt or tie my shoelaces.

I can walk short distances with just the braces, so I haven't bothered spending money on a scooter yet. I really cherish what mobility I still have, so I'd only want a scooter when I'd really absolutely need one. But if I go somewhere that is a large venue, and I might have to walk a considerable distance, which I no longer cannot, I will rent a scooter.

So get this. I am overweight, my disability isn't obvious unless I pull my pants up or show off my hands, and I am young. I get dirty looks constantly, but try not to let it bother me. The only time it got to me was when this old man started berating me for using a handicapped parking space (I got a sign on my window, but I guess he just assumed I was using someone else's) and then a scooter to get around a large shopping mall. I finally showed him my leg braces and how messed up my hands were, and instead of saying sorry, he went 'So fucking what!' and walked away.

Though just a few months ago I had this old baby boomer on a bench shaking his head at me at the hospital, like I urinated in front of him, or was just made of pure shame. I was parked in a handicapped parking spot, and the sign had fallen so you could only see it if you went right up to the windshield. When I lifted the sign and pointed at it, his wife started laughing at him.

PS. if anyone is curious, I am working on losing weight. Went from 330 to 290 so far.
