Bitterest Conference

It's ACC no contest.

You have a northern/southern rift. A basketball/football rift. A private/public rift. Not to mention the Big East/ACC fanbases absolutely hated each other and now they are forced to be in the same conference. The SEC/Big Ten may be each others biggest foe and steal the spotlight. But they were never such fierce polar opposites like the ACC/Big East were.

I know it's not /r/CFB related but if you ever come across an ACC forum in early March I suggest you read it. A debate Madison Square Garden vs Greensboro Coliseum tops anything you will see on /r/politics. And if a Southern team is ever the ACC rep for the Pinstripe Bowl, expect a total implosion on their forums.

The issue with the ACC is that it was the only conference that had its culture changed as a result of conference realignment. You have two competing mentalities on the proper direction of the conference. Should it preserve its Southern heritage? Or should it invest in building its brand in the Northeast? You also have both sides with a chip on their shoulder as they were such bitter basketball rivals and were always arguing about not only who was better, but what the right "style" of basketball was. Not to mention Southern football oriented and Northern basketball oriented fanbases don't mix well. No other conference forums are such a ticking time bomb for arguments over guns & taxes.

These two conference were battling each other to not be the one in last place with the survival of their respective conferences at stake. Now we have to deal with the consequences of a sore loser and an "in your face" winner living as bunk mates. So go figure.
