CMV: Civility in politics is useless, and calls for civility are often dangerous

Thank you. If we start under the premise that most people are generally good and trying to help, then it allows us to actually talk about issues and compromise.

On Healthcare - when one side says "Democrats are just lazy and want everything for free" and the other side says "Republicans don't care if poor people die, as long as the rich get richer", then where do you start to actually make progress? You convince yourself that the other side is wrong/evil based on "your" interpretation of their stance, even if your interpretation is wrong.

What if we assumed that nobody wants anyone to die, and we just disagree about what method actually helps the most people. Maybe then we could actually do something and start helping people instead of everyone getting more entrenched in their position with no flexibility.

I know some politicians just want power, but not ALL of them.
