CMV: making fun of people for the purposes of personal social advancement is morally reprehensible.

Let's say my friends and I are walking down the street, and we pass someone across the street. Let's say, for whatever reason, something about this person, or something about what they're doing, strikes us as funny. In fact, let's say, for the sake of argument, that we find that person's face to be extremely laughable.

  • Is it morally reprehensible to laugh at this person among ourselves?
  • Is this better or worse than involving the person directly, such as by calling out at them?
  • Would the situation be different if we were accidentally being too loud, and they overheard us?
  • Would any of this be different if they were on the same side of the street as us?
