I think Rupi Kaur's "milk and honey" is an utter disgrace to poetry, real poets would spend hours, sometimes a day working on no more than 2 lines, the "poetry" in her book, seems like the only effort put into it was spacing the words apart, cheers for that though she can space her words apart alright, I get we have to give new styles a chance but this isn't even a style, how can it be when it'sn not even poetry, at least E.E.Cummings tried with his shit, he didn't just throw a bunch of words in random order and say "hey look I did something revolutionary", he tried it because he actually cares for poetry, and cares about what he's saying, and that's alright to try new formats, as long as you're staying true to the profession, this cunt, writes like she can't tell apart a pamphlet from poetry, the huge appeal, is caused by the whiny sounds you'll find yourself eventually making 15 pages into this book, because a lot of people, want to read shit that's 1- easy to understand, 2- sounds super sad, 3- makes them feel like they're right and whoever they dislike is wrong, here's the thing, if a poem is a dish, then the unique recipe is in the chef's head, and all the tools are what help you bring that dish to perfection, rupi kaur set out to make mac n cheese, but didn't use any tools, so she didn't cook it, she poured the cheese powder, over raw pasta, took a shit, slammed it on top of it, and that's milk and honey, if you think that book is anything but a pig's shit, you're very misinformed about what makes a poem, let alone a good poem, don't care about actual poetry, andjust want to read something that contributes to the feathers in your self-pity pillow, just compare te level of effort in her ramblings, and one of Seamus heaney's poems, i didn't want to give an example of one of the really old poets, but just do that and you'll see why her book is shit, but if people wanna eat shit, then be my fucking guest.
