[CW] Write a story that makes the reader feel guilty for enjoying it.

A young boy often left at home had no one to play with or talk to.

One day his parents bought him a small dog, which was brown with a white spot on his nose which the boy rightfully named 'spot'.

The boy made it his duty to train the dog and to teach him how to do tricks, sit and wait, play different games.

He grew very close to spot, but as the boy got older, he spent less time with the dog. His friends took up his attention, his games, and spot was left to do nothing but sleep every day.

The boy brang a girl home from school one day and took her to his room. In his room he found spot snooping around, he was enraged. He yelled at the dog and spot just barked, not listening to his command.

The boy embarrassed in front of the girl, kicked spot as hard as he could. The dog whimpered and ran away.

After the girl left, he felt terrible for what he had done and searched around the house for spot, but the dog was nowhere to be found.

He went back to his room to find what the dog had been snooping for. In the corner of his bed, under his pillow he found a small twig. A gift that the dog had been hiding for him.

He was shocked and felt more guilty than ever. He'd betrayed a close friend over someone that didn't matter that much.

The boy ran outside yelling, "Spot! Spot!"

He heard a groan from under the house deck.

Spot lay, curled up on his side the bruise from the kick had now turned purple.

The boy held spot in his arms, crying at what he'd done through his anger. Spot curled into his arms, licking away the tears on either cheek.

The boy ran with spot in his arms to the town vet, not too far away from where he stay. He yelled for someone to help and the vet saw him immediately.

The vet was disgusted by his behaviour and promised he would heal the dog, as long as the boy would give him to someone who would take better care of the dog.

The boy reluctantly agreed, in order to save the life of his friend. He kissed spot on his forehead, and turned walking away.

Spot lay, happy to have help. Not understanding the significance of what his owner had done.

The dog was given a new owner the following week and lived happily with treats and kisses. But always remembered the young boy he grew up with in the back of his doggy mind.
