Daily Discussion Thread 09/05/2015

I'm not really a frequent poster so you might doubt the credibility of this story but whatever.

So last night after work, I was drinking with some colleagues and I ended up talking to one of my colleague's friend that happened to be there. Turns out this guy is some music insider type guy who is personal friends with The Internet (Syd, Matt Martians etc.) and has helped write a few songs with them (apparently one of their songs is based on one of his friends). He even texts Matt Martians everyday and showed me the texts to prove it.

Obviously at this point I'm starstuck and I get the guy to tell me all sorts of stories about people he has hung out with like the Neptunes, Mac Miller, Odd Future, Danny Brown etc. One of the interesting things he told me was about the origins of the Delusional Thomas mixtape name.

This dude (https://twitter.com/benakt) Ben Thomas is some rich kid type, who tends to lie a lot and act like he's some big shot, so Mac calls him "delusional, delusional Thomas" and that was how the name was born. If you click on the guy's twitter page you can see that he is followed by Mac and Tyler is in his profile pic.

Anyway, something really interesting that he told me was about Frank Ocean. He tells me that he has heard the completed version of Boys Don't Cry and that the general consensus was that it wasn't a very good album. He says that all the instrumentals are live instruments, no features and the general sound is like the song 'Sweet Life' from Channel Orange.

The main complaint he had was that the instrumentals were bad and that Frank had nothing interesting to say on the album. Since Channel Orange was mainly about love, this album was more about Frank as a person and he said it was that interesting and that it wouldn't live up to the hype set by Channel Orange. He also thinks that it is unlikely that the album will be released at all but who knows.

So yeah, a really interesting conversation I had with this guy. There are some other stories he told me if anyone is interested.

The only real proof I have is this picture from the guy's instagram where you can see my colleague and the guy hanging out with the Internet.
