While its not being covered in the news the reaction from Americans who are not political has been pretty nasty toward's the British. At least from my own experience. I was at an informal family party to reveal the sex of my brother and sister in law's new baby. Most of the 22 people ranged from non political to low information voters who almost always vote for the Democrats. The only two political extremes are myself as a Republican and my Cousin who is a progressive left wing Democrat city councilor that just got elected to his first term in a NJ/NY town. I would say that 60% of the people were Hispanic (Puerto Ricans) the rest a mix of religious Reform Jews and Italian Americans.
In between watching the Knicks almost lose we watched the coverage on CNN. The reaction from everyone was extremely nasty and negative towards the British politicians and people. They did not listen to their arguments and just heard them "shitting" on Trump and nobody gave a dam about their grand statements only that they considered the British to be pieces of shit. Everyone at the party are the children, grandchildren of immigrant parents or immigrants themselves. The ones who still have thick accent overcompensated the most and were the most xenophobic.
My brother's in laws are all Hispanic and they basically spent the entire time mocking the different British accents while crowing about how Trump is a good employer to people they know who work for his businesses. A few people but not many perhaps 2-3 got really heated and called a few of the politicians assholes or uptight pricks. My cousin the politician tried to give a history lesson about parliament and most people just talked over him until he started to get angry about being ignored. Then he tried to defend the process and a few of the more louder family members called him a "commie who thinks his shit does not stink" because he got elected to a political post and laughed at him because it does not have a salary. Then reminded him that he still needs to work like the rest of them.
I just kept my mouth shut and tired to act like I was not interested in what was going on except to tell them to check to see if the commercials are over so we can watch the Knicks. My families reaction was not typical and I suspect most people did not watch it on CNN let alone during a party or family get together.
