Elizabeth Warren's wealth tax would cost Jeff Bezos $4.1 billion in first year

Thanks for the clarification I didn’t grasp the greater context, based on the previous comment and yours and thought you were simply denying the categorization of an estate tax as a transactional tax.

I hear your point as well. I would say however that the “problems” with wealth taxes (i.e. lacking liquidity / cash flow) are not actually that analogous with those created by property taxes. I’m spitballing this statistic, but I’d wager 85% of American property owners’ property taxes are wrapped with their mortgage and is thereby a very structured expense for most Americans, rich or poor. Thus, at a point when those who have paid off their property (mostly the very wealthy - even most “rich” people get property financing - or retirees) their IRA/401k/pension is the standard source, well-structured in advance, for property tax satisfaction. As such, the vast majority of people who own property outright aren’t paying property tax out of pocket and/or selling non-retirement-allocated assets or equity in their businesses to cover prop taxes.

That said, the “above-average wealthy” demographic do often own property well in advance of retirement and thereby pay prop taxes directly from their income.

So, after typing all that, and assuming I understand your point correctly (“problems from wealth tax are analogous to property taxes for those who are very wealthy”) yah... I think that’s actually a pretty reasonable point. I should probly delete my previous paragraph but and just leave my last few sentences but maybe you’ll enjoy reading someone misunderstand you then come to agree with you after grasping your point all in one comment lol
