Elon Musk defends him banning journalist by saying "time away from Twitter is good for the soul" after begging for celebs and users not to leave and blackmailing advertisers who left.

Well, I totally slammed my Twitter account shut a couple of weeks ago in protest to the way he was treating employees.

When I closed the account it said I could always go back within 30 days, but ya: I ain't ever going back, that's for sure.

BUT... keep in mind...

As I was also mentioning in another comment on another sub:

Some people's very livelihood depends upon their Twitter presence. And so paying the bills, keeping a roof over the family's head, and making sure their kids are ok certainly takes precedence over to them listening to you and I's idealistic protest demands about Twitter!

You and I have the luxury of easily deleting our accounts. They don't, unfortunately.

Which really puts them in a bad place right now.

ADDITIONALLY:

You then have very talented people across all fields, who promote what they are doing using Twitter, so that makes keeping up with them easy, and helps reward their talent with a larger audience.

And then, you also have others who have used it just fine over the long years of establishing a great network excellent sources of information, in various professional fields such as science, engineering, etc.

That's how I used it:

It was a great tool to get instant, daily updates and insights from some of the greatest scientific and engineering minds across the planet, and great artists too!

That part I miss... now that I've cut myself off from Twitter--that single large group inspirational group I had made as following.

Their voices are just gone now--so I feel a silence. Now I don't know what they are thinking/saying anymore on a daily basis. And now I'm going to slowly lose touch with what some of the artists are doing. All because of Elon.

:(

So ya for people who depend upon for their livlihood, or just to see at a glance what truly great minds are thinking about... to suddenly cut that all off is not an easy step.

And so many people (and families) are being hurt/effected by Elon in this way. :(

People's feeds have already become affected, and things are just going to get worse and worse as Twitter spirals into a hell hole of Elon's making.

And there's no real immediate true replacement to Twitter ready yet.

The moment there is one... I'm onboard!
