Episode Discussion - Too Short to Ride

Was anyone else a bit disappointed by how the episode ended?

Now don't get me wrong, I loved the episode, I love Peridot, and I think her metal? powers are very cool. That being said, I feel like her getting her powers undercut the message that the episode was leading up to.

The central theme of the episode was principally about Peridot having low self-esteem, or in other words, not being able to see value in herself due to areas where she perceived herself as 'lacking' (not having powers, not being as good as she could be, etc.). Steven and Amethyst had the 'real talk' with her, which was a good message itself - we like you because of who you are, etc.

I just felt like this message was mildly undercut by the fact that it was never really actualised. Peridot didn't learn to love herself despite perceived failings/flaws, and therefore the actual lesson wasn't displayed. Rather, she got given a new power, which not just in her own mind but quite literally and entirely made up for her deficiency- it was the new power that stopped her being upset.

I'm not sure if the message of loving yourself despite anything was the moral of the episode or just a development device for Peridot, but if the former, I think it was significantly undercut because the episode never actually showed that self-valuing happening, but rather displayed an alternate lesson; that it is, to an extent, legitimate to value yourself based on unchangeable skills.

No hate, just wanted to know whether anyone else feels the same way.
