That's mostly correct. The immigrant Turks from the 60s-70s are stuck at that mentality because they couldn't integrate. Add that they were mostly from villages and not educated you have a community of real life equivalent of Turkish rednecks and hillbillies. I'd also like to mention situation is not that different in Turkey nowadays. For last 15 years the same slice of demographic was purposely empowered through financial and social means. They form a hefty chunk of roughly 80 milion people Turks in Turkey. I wouldn't say they were not present 15 years ago, too. But they were afraid of discrimination if they acted on their primitive impulses and mostly kept in their circles where they were comfortable. Today, they are the dominant demographic in big cities and vocal, active, brave to enforce their ideas. Capital and State is on their side, establishment pat their backs, they hold the bulging coin purse above any sort of market's head. I leave you with the picture so you can fill the gaps.
