[EU] Bruce Wayne, age 121, has died of a heart attack in his sleep. Friendless and forgotten, the only ones to attend his funeral are fellow heroes in costume, honoring the true face of their fallen comrade. After a few words from the priest, Superman steps up to the podium to give a eulogy...

"I've known Bruce Wayne a long time now, and any of you here who were close to him knew the same thing that I did. There was no getting close to Bruce. He had partners, team mates and his Bat Family, but there was always a distance that couldn't be breached. His focus and his actions were always in service to his crusade. We had different methods, heh, who am I kidding? We had radically different ideologies. But at the end of the day we both wanted the same thing."
Superman paused and looked around the church at the gathering of superheroes paying their final respects. He saw Jason and Dick sitting side by side, content to let the younger generation carry the torch forward. The legacy of Batman continued to this day through Damien, and Tim, and Terry who had more than earned his place long ago. He looked over at who was left from the original Justice League. Superman then became distinctly aware that even though he still had many years left here on Earth, this was truly the end of an era. The rogue galleries from when the Justice League had formed were all dead or imprisoned, well all except Joker and Lex.
Times had changed quickly and with no remorse, Superman had become a symbol long ago and no one ever really spoke to Superman anymore. How do you speak to a symbol? With Bruce gone, so too was the only companion and conversation partner that Superman had left. The only human who honestly believed himself to be Superman's equal. Superman once again found himself thinking of the last time he saw Bruce, a week before he passed. Even then his eyes held the fire they always had, his mind never lost any of its sharpness.
"Bruce wanted the world to be a better place, a place where a child would never have to witness the murder of their parents."
"HA HA HA HA HEE! HO HO HO HA HA HA!"
"Oh stop it Supes! You're ruining the man's reputation, he was so much more than that!" Standing at the end of the aisle was the Joker, flanked on either side by all of Gotham's new rogues. Superman reacts instantly and flies straight at the Joker as the church erupts into chaos. Superman scans the immediate area looking for a sign of Lex knowing he can't be too far away. Superman grabs hold of Joker and smashes through the church's stained glass window.
Looking down at Joker's body, Superman laments the fact that the Joker will always be a part of Batman's legacy. But he shifts his attention to the lead plated car sitting outside the church, where Lex is most likely sitting. Once he reaches the car, he grabs hold of the passenger door and rips it off to the side as if it were a napkin. Lex is sitting in the passenger seat, in his usual expensive designer suit, his bald head, and the few small signs of aging that even he wasn't able to stop, But there was no life left in him anymore. Teaming up with the Joker so many times had finally cost Lex his life. The Joker's purple bow tie was still wrapped tightly around Lex's neck. His face stuck in a grotesque pose of both surprise and agony, his eyes open, and his hands rigidly stuck clawing at the bow tie around his throat. Too late did Superman realize the loss of his powers.
"HEE HEE HEE HEE!" He felt the Joker's hot breath on the back of his neck, and the for the first time in his life Clark felt true fear. Clark whipped around and saw the Joker still laying on the ground blood seeping blood from where the glass cut him. Green blood.
"HA HA HA HO HO HA HA HEE!"Once again the Joker's laugh cut through to Clark's soul, his laugh was inhuman. The Joker had always been the most unhinged of any villain the Justice League ever faced. But that Joker was sane compared to the unhinged beast that laid before him now. It was a demon that stumbled to his feet and faced down Clark.
"Lex proved to be such a wonderful friend Supes! He injected some Kryptonite into my bloodstream and did it without killing me in the process! Why should anyone else but me be allowed to have that pleasure?!"
Clark had absorbed enough of the sun's rays throughout the years to the point at which Kryptonite was not life threatening and only made him mortal. "I don't have any more jokes Supes, I'm tired, I'm here to pay my last respects to an old friend. One last parting gift, AND IT'S ME! My boys are gonna bury my body with ol' Bats! Isn't that great?!"
 BANG!
 BANG!
 BANG!
With a quick flick of his wrist, Joker unloaded 3 bullets into Clark's gut and brought him to his knees. The Joker stumbled over to Clark and slumped down next to him. Clark turned and looked at the madman that had caused so many years of terror and violence, and saw how tired he was. He looked dead already, clinging to life to finish telling one last awful joke.
"Things just ain't the way they used to be Supes. Everything's too boring nowadays, and then my best friend up and dies, leaving me here alone. Can you believe that? It would drive anyone mad. Once you and I are gone, it'll really be over." Clark suddenly felt truly tired, and thought of Bruce once again. He remembered all the years, he remembered the man, he remembered everything Bruce stood and fought for. And he thought of everything that Bruce would be remembered for after this. He thought of the Joker and his years of insane tyranny, "Well Joker, if that's the case, then I guess it's time for me to give Bruce my final gift." Clark said as he raised his hands towards the Joker, clenching the bow tie that he had grabbed from Lex's neck, "Goodbye Bruce."
