Have you ever been asked to be a bridesmaid and declined the offer? If so, why did you decline and how did you tell the bride?

I was the bride, not the bridesmaid, but here's the story...

I planned a destination wedding, gave our guests officially 2 years notice, it was actually more because we settled on a date and location 2 years before the wedding but told people our plans beforehand. I asked a close girlfriend of mine (we will call her Kelly) to be bridesmaid as she had been keen to join us and started making plans to come to Cape Town. About a year before when the flight availability was released, Kelly text me and just said: 'Can't come to the wedding. Can't afford it, sorry.' I was naturally heartbroken and asked he why she hadn't told me in person or even on the phone. I appreciate its a long way to go, but we were making a really fun trip out of it, and she had been so into all the plans. She ended up giving me a load of shit about it (still, via text message) and I havent spoken to her since. Still waiting on a phone call from her, I think I'm worth at least that much. Dodged a bullet, I guess. Still really hurt though :(
