Have you ever considered yourself an alcoholic? What has changed since then?

I’m a 19 year old asian who was born and have always lived in Canada (legal age for drinking is 18). Where my parents come from, they drink alcohol as if it’s water, so I was introduced to it very early. When college started, the stress and the countless of bad events that occurred caused me to drink a lot more (I’m talking about 7 glasses of whiskey on rocks in one night while I’m studying, so imagine when I go to parties) but I never admitted that maybe I was becoming an alcoholic. What has changed? I’d say after plenty of bad hangovers, I was pretty fed up by it and just ultimately stopped daily drinking. I’ve only been drinking when my stress is way too high and when it’s a weekend, but in no way do I drink as much as I used to. I’m honestly happy that I got rid of that habit because, ultimately, i drank because I wanted to forget that I was suffering from anxiety and depression.
