it's not about escaping; it's that old saying, "don't keep all your eggs in one basket." i'm as doom & gloom as the next, but while we're all moping around fearing the end, i'm glad there are people like him who are still trying to propel mankind forward. even if they don't succeed at their original goal, it's people like this who may create new technologies that actually COULD help this planet.

also, while i think it is farfetched to think that we may have enough time to set up a colony on mars, i, for one, don't think the idea that such a colony might survive while everyone on earth perishes is a BAD idea. in such an event, the people on mars would be the best & brightest - scientists. meanwhile the bulk of humanity is responsible for the destruction of earth, and yes, even the pleebs. look around you - how many people do you know that actually care or even realize what we're doing to the planet? much less working to stop/correct it? they're all too busy posting selfies on facebook and instagram and tweeting about inane bullshit to even notice that we're killing our planet (including many other species). humanity as a whole doesn't deserve earth anymore. we're selfish parasites. /end rant.
