A game on the App Store’s top charts stole and replicated my game within 24 hours.

Mobile developer here, specifically iOS. It's very, very unlikely that he copied your idea, developed the game in less than 24 hours, and published the game in even less time.

How long did it take you to make your game?

  • If you had the time to copy your own game from start to finish, could you even do it in 24 hours?

iOS Apps take around 1-2 weeks for Approval

  • This is standard for every single app. Even if he made the app in 12 hours, there's no way he can get his app on the App Store in less than 1 day. The iOS app store is NOT like the Google Play store. It goes through a long, long queue before it even gets looked at. Even after it gets looked at, it usually takes around 24 hours after approval to be processed for every region to even show up on the store.

Here is a Youtube video he posted on his channel 10 days ago

  • You can see, his game was already in development before yours was even released! It's the same game title, same gameplay, under the same developer name. It has around 80 views right now.

I think you can see that you were just a little too stressed out about releasing your game. Maybe you've been too focused on commercial success, just as a lot of us here are, and perhaps that's probably not good for us. When you start focusing on "how well your game is going to do," you forget about what is actually important, like spending time to make your game better.

I do think there's a really good lesson here. Let's imagine someone did copy your game under more realistic circumstances. Even if that were the case, I think the best way to handle it is to not point fingers and blame others. When we start to covet our ideas, attack anyone who tries to copy it, we start to lose innovation, and heart. Instead of thinking how to get what we deserve, maybe we should think about how to make our services and products better. Try to understand why our game was so easily copied. And if your games are exactly the same, it would be good to try to understand why his succeeded and yours didn't.

There is a plethora of silver linings here. I do believe this happened for a reason, even if it was an honest mistake. Anyway, good luck with your endeavors. I can totally understand the stress behind releasing a game, because I'm finally about to release another one too! (In fact, I rejected my own submission 3 times already today while it was sitting in the App Review queue haha).

Good luck to you, brother!
