This guy does this every Saturday night at the biggest intersection in my town.

Let's see:

  • Redlining was first outlawed in 1974, which means that the first generation to benefit from that were probably the parents of the current generation. To say that being limited in where you can buy a house and live is not limiting is ignorance, and the effects are still seen this.

  • Jim Crow Laws were only abolished 60 years ago. The impact of such an unequal system is certainly still felt today, and still limits the opportunities that many non-white people have today.

  • The War on Drugs goes on to this day and dis-proportionally affects non-whites. There are many more non-white people in jail for non-violent drug crimes despite similar or higher levels of drug use and addiction by whites compared to non-whites. Ripping apart families and targeting neighborhoods with increased violent police presence still happens today.

Yes, things are getting better, and that's good, but to day that "we can do nothing more to help" is rank ignorance.
