This guy sums up how frustrating food service is in one article.

A rebuttal to one part...

“How the hell can you not afford a tip? You live on the lake for crying out loud! What is it then? Do you think I’m lazy because I’m in my mid twenties and still work in a restaurant, or are you just an asshole that gets their rocks off by making people mad?”

There's that entitlement again.

Maybe I don't get it because I was never a tip jockey. I worked counter at McD's, I did the usual shelf work at KMart, worked digging through nasties in the back of Goodwill. Shitty jobs, but no tips.

If he (or any tip-worker) doesn't like the fact that it's the customer's discretion whether they put down extra money or not, they are welcome to join the ranks of McDonalds, Burger King, Kmart, and so many other entry level locations that do not pay in tips.

Shit, most places didn't even have a delivery fee prior to mid-2008. Papa Johns had $0.25 fees. Pizza prices haven't really changed much. But oh man, you better bet your ass places started putting in delivery fees when gas spiked over $4/gal. And that was fine, because everyone understood that it was to make sure drivers got paid.

But it didn't stop. Delivery fees are now nearing $5. Gas is at a record low for the past decade. And you still want more than $1? You didn't sneak in an extra cheese or marinara sauce, you didn't include little packets of parm or crushed red pepper. So what did you do to make this a great experience for the customer that you expect some amazing generosity?

We paid for the food. We paid for the service of being delivered to (usually an additional $3.50-$4.50 these days). You didn't show up with a menu and wine pairing suggestions. You have added nothing to the experience that hasn't been paid for already.

It's fucking disgusting the amount of disrespect shown to a customer because they didn't tip what the delivery person or server expected them to. Sorry for paying for what we ordered. Sorry that you chose a job where the amount you make is arbitrary and based solely on the discretion of random people.
