Help with $5000 investment.

Assuming that you’re new to investing, stockpicking outside of an etf is difficult to do without doing your proper research on the company and the specific situations involving their stock. If I were in your place I would personally be in ETFs while I learn the markets.

Assuming that he will not budge and is dead set on you only getting stocks, research some stocks that have a solid history of a slow climb that’s relatively stable and safe rather than high risks if you’re wanting to be careful with it.

This is not financial advice and I’m not a financial advisor. This is my opinion as an individual.

Also, it is illegal for someone to give you financial advice if they are not a licensed financial advisor. And I would recommend always stating that you’re not a financial advisor when discussing stocks with others.
