How do you exercise when you hate exercise?

I just hit 6 weeks straight in the gym, after not having exercised consistently in probably 10 years (back when I played high school soccer).

I honestly do not know how I’m doing it. I have a gym buddy who certainly helps with the accountability aspect, but really I saw a gym opened in my town, I signed up, and was there at 5am the next day. Then I just kept doing it.

I go through obsessive phases, and I was worried this would be another one, but I’ve ingrained it into my routine now. I know this isn’t super helpful and I fucking hate it when the advice is “you just have to do it.” But for me, when the time came, that’s really how it went down. It was extremely difficult but I decided to do it, did it, and am doing.

Listening to audiobooks, podcasts, or watching movies (on the treadmill) helps me get through it on the more difficult days.
