When I was living in NY I met an Australian and we decided to keep in touch. This was before Facebook, Skype, etc. We had IM and email of course, but no SMS and phone calls were pretty pricey.

But I would make CDs and even design the artwork, and mail them off. She sent a bottle of wine to my table at the restaurant where I was celebrating my birthday. We made do with what we could at that time.

That was about 20 years ago and I’m typing this in my apartment in Sydney where I’ve lived for the last 12 years. We’ve been married for over 18 years and it’s been a wild ride but we did it.
