My most influential male role model in my life was my grandfather who I lived with growing up (never met my father). He was a multiple military branch veteran, Chief of Police, old school manly man. He absolutely preached this kind of behavior as respect for woman and people in general.

The kind of guys who ask this are the kind of guys who hold the door open for you, not because you're a woman and they're a gentleman, but because you're a human and they're a gentleman.
