'Huge loss': more than 100,000 orangutans gone from Borneo in 16 years

"There is no such thing as ethical consumption under globalized capitalism."

No international business is without blood on its hands. That's the reality of the world. People get bogged down now knowing the truth of where their food and consumer goods come from. One company tests on animals, but the other has a CEO that is racist, or this other brand has known poor employment practices. Every huge organization has its dark side.

You want to make a difference- but you can't ever check all the ethics boxes when it comes to mass produced goods nowadays. Personally, I took issue with how one type of good I consume is produced, so I went into a career where I can make a difference in how that production is practically applied and regulated. I can't save all the world, but I picked an issue and am trying to become part of the solution. I encourage everyone to do the same. Don't get discouraged by the world. Just focus on the things we can start working on instead of a huge pile of problems.
