There's not a lot to remember about them. History has produced far more prolific killers and psychopaths and will likely continue to do so. Few people can actually name more than one or two of the Manson Family. Manson himself is only still more memorable because of Marilyn Manson taking his name. The impact of Charles Manson will last a generation, but not much more than that.

As far as killers go, Manson was far from the worst of them. Look at the Bath School Disaster. Does the name Andrew Kehoe mean anything to anyone? He blew-up an elementary school killing 38 elementary school children and six adults and injured at least 58 other people. It is currently the deadliest mass murder to take place at a school in United States history. And a generation has passed and no one remembers it anymore.

Charles Manson was only famous because he was responsible for the death of a very pregnant Hollywood movie star (Sharon Tate). She was two weeks from giving birth so it was especially horrific. The trial uncovered that much of Charles Manson's inspiration came from the Beatles, who were the most popular band at the time. So it was only the celebrity factor that launched him into fame. For the same reason that Mark David Chapman was launched to fame for killing John Lennon. Manson himself, and his actions and those of his followers are nothing as compared to people like Hitler, Jim Jones (Jonestown massacre, 909 people dead), Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (9/11 mastermind), Adam Lanza (Newtown massacre), and of course, the infamous Andrew Kehoe.

Manson will be mostly forgotten within a few more decades. His actions, while horrific, are nothing as compared to the real killers of this world. He was just the pop-star of murders. And like all pop-stars, they eventually fade away.
