If you could go back and relive one day of your life what day would that be and why?

There was a perfect Sunday back when I was 16.

I had dropped out of high school, started working an under-the-table laborer job with my best friend who was a couple years older than me, who was dating the boss's daughter - who had a very cute friend I was very interested in.

My friend had been dating the boss's daughter since they were 12, and when they 17 they got engaged. The Dad/our boss was a pretty cool guy, a hard worker type - who let my best friend move in with them after my friend's family split.

Anyway. The job was pretty cool. He'd get bids/jobs for us, then we'd show up and work them until they were done - often 12+ hours at a time, sometimes for days. We got paid by the job, not by the hour - so we had every incentive to work our asses off. If we got done really fast, we'd get a bonus.

Honestly, this is kinda sad - but that stupid under the table job was the best paying job I've ever had so far. I was making over $600 a week on average, mostly painting houses.

We had been working for almost a week stripping/re-staining this giant rich asshole's log cabin - the biggest pain in the ass job we ever did. But the pay was monstrous, I got $1000 that week; we finished late Saturday night. So I didn't even want to go home, they let me crash there.

The next day I woke up to the boss guy cooking in the kitchen. He decided to celebrate our hard work by having a cookout day. As soon as I walked in there he handed me this giant Bloody Mary.

I had never really hung out over there with the guy and his family, but I decided why not - he knew we drank/partied all the time and didn't bat an eye at us drinking. And he was a big hick, big into playing cornhole, horseshoes, and Texas Hold'em - and boy could that guy cook.

Day started at 9am, hung out downstairs with him playing Rummy while he started this "deer chili" and making hamburgers wrapped in bacon, prepping steak. Kind of strange, but it was alright.

An hour or two later, my buddy gets up with his fiance - we all start hanging out and drinking, playing cards. They started joking about how I had the hots for her friend, I didn't deny it. So like a bro, my buddy had his chick call her over.

She showed up about an hour later, noon-1ish. We drank and hung out all day - playing cornhole, horseshoes, then later really heavy drinking and cards we played with change for buy-ins. The boss guy kept a TON of change where we could exchange bills for coins - usually $5-$10. End of the night winner leaves with all of it around $100.

The awesome thing was - it wasn't just US drinking/partying there. It was a small farming town, we had all sorts of people show up - INCLUDING the mayor, and a few police officers - who also didn't bat an eye at us drinking.

It was just great, the whole day. The food was great, the drinks were great, the games were great, the girl was great - and even more so - it was the start of my first "relationship" where I shortly there after lost my virginity.

The reason I would relive that day is because honestly - it was just so magical. All that possibility, honest living (working hard, getting paid well), trying to get with a girl and not knowing what to expect, the uncertainty. The closeness of great friends that I had for many years after that.

Now I know people are going to say that it's fucked up that a guy let a 16 year old drink and party all day, run a small-time gambling ring - but it really wasn't a bad thing. Everyone's parents knew we were drinking there and they agreed they'd rather have us drinking around some kind of supervision than NONE at all.

I wouldn't trade the memory of that day for anything - it was fantastic, in every way.

The end of the night, around 1am - it was a scorcher of a day, one of those 90 degree nights. After the cards had ended, or at least we all lost - we went "pool hopping". Where since we didn't have a pool, we'd sneak into people's backyards and swim in THEIR pool - and if they woke up, which 2 did - we'd run like hell to the next pool. During which, I got my first handful - and it was great.
