"If you go and read the Koran...then honestly ask yourself: what would Muhammad want? The result is something that actually looks a lot more like ISIS, and not like Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, or any other pacifist movement" — Sam Harris

Why do some atheists claim to be open minded and objective but judge everyone in a religion because of the bad apples. Yes there are crazy people that take advantage of religion. Yes there are people that use religion for their own benefit. But just like them there are cops, politicians, businessman, teachers and even scientists who take advantage in order to get ahead. Obviously there are few scientists but the one that comes to mind is te doctor that published te paper saying vaccinations cause autism. There are a lot of people willing to just believe anything they are told and don't want to find out or themselves. Why judge one harsher than the other? If you knew about the Koran you would know that Mohammed specifically forbade any harm to all other people outside of Islam. Also many other religions have some sort of rule like that as well. If anything in the bible or any other text tells you to hurt anyone it is wrong because Jesus, Mohammed, and other prophets as well as "gods word" in Jewish or Christian text main message is one of peace. Anyone can twist around one small passage into something evil and hurtful. Look at Hitler who adopted the swatsticka which was known as a sign of peace and turned it into one of the most recognizable signs of racists. There are many factors to religions. Many texts and many things that takes time to learn. You can't claim to read the bible and say you know about Catholicism because you are wrong. Catholicism is much more than the bible. Many priests spend years learning and studying theology and even other religions before they are allowed to be priests. I don't know much about Islam but I would assume it is similar and I would not dare to judge something I do not fully know. But from what I do know is that it is not a religion of hate. You can pull out all the quotes and anecdotes you want but anyone that hurts in the name of religion is fucked up in the head and not a basis for me to judge a whole mass of people. Because just like there are bad apples there are good apples except the good ones don't make it on the news. Look at lone survivor about the seal who was protected by a small village of Muslims because of an old ass rule where you are supposed to protect your enemies. I didn't see anyone claiming Islam was a great religion because it saved someone's life. It easy to pick and chose what parts you want to hear and not hear. But if you will at least judge, look at everyone good and bad then make your claim. The Catholic Church as "bad" as it is remains one of the largest charitable institutions in the world in terms of how many people they help every year and how many places they have set up around the world. Yes there are bad people but bad people will be bad no matter what environment or job they are in. These people are not the religion they are people who have distorted what religion really means and taken advantage.
