[WP]Write the most terrifying story you can possibly imagine, and make me genuinely afraid.

Harry unbuttoned his shirt and sank into his old familiar armchair. His red-rimmed eyes stared at the door. Tonight was Saturday. And like every Saturday, it came.

At first Harry had passed it off as a nightmare. But when it happened again, and again, he knew that it was anything but a nightmare. It was much worse. Each time it came closer, becoming more adventurous. It used to only wait outside the door, with an unusually long shadow reaching the bottom of Harry's bed. That scared Harry. But what scared him more was what it did last Saturday. It came into the room and just stood there. None of its features could be distinguished in the dark, and it towered over Harry's bed. Unable to move, Harry had to pretend he was asleep. This night he knew was going to be the worst.

He had tried sleeping in another room. His friend had lent a sympathetic shoulder to Harry as he explained what was happening to him. But then he drifted off to sleep, only to wake up in his room with that thing standing outside. After a dreadful night's sleep, Harry approached his friend who said that he had no recollection of letting Harry stay for the night. And last Saturday Harry had driven away to his parent's house. He fell asleep at the wheel, and the exact same thing happened. In fact, running away had only made it even more horrible. It was as if he was spurring it on, as only when he tried to escape properly did it enter his room.

The old uncanny sound of the scratching against the door started. The shadow reached out to Harry's armchair, and not his bed. Harry felt his heartbeat faster and faster. He lifted up his feet and put them on the armchair. But the shadow edged forwards, and it engulfed the whole of Harry's body. "Go away you terrible thing! I don't deserve..." The scratching stopped. Harry listened. Was it gone? The shadow was still there. He waited with bated breath. The light's started flickering. The door handle turned. The lights went out. Harry knew that this was it. The lights came on suddenly, and it was right in his face, lying on the armchair.
