The incredibly sad story of those foreigners who lived and worked in China and who have been locked out for 10 months.

So I think I'm going to take my chances applying for one

I really hope you get it, but it shouldn't be a game of chance and require so many hoops. Any country should, as a courtesy, make it easy for foreign spouses of citizens to obtain permanent residency, like the UK, Canada, EU, America, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, all of South America etc. does.

It was actually very easy. Nowhere near "a billion times" more difficult and I own property in the UK and China, so have experience with both. Can't comment on America.

When we were living in China, foreigners were not allowed to own properties. We would've had to put the property in my wife's name.
