Is John Dehlin a leader in the "movement"? Does he represent us?

I think we are missing what the old podcasts used to bring to the table.

If you have some favorites, think about them. For me, the Infants' placebo effect and their essay smack-down episodes were fantastic. They brought tremendous energy and curiosity to the table. John's episode with Dr. Coe and others like it were phenomenal. John Larsen had several that provided tremendous insight into topics.

You can go back to listen to them, but they seem dated. They don't include consideration for recent developments and changes in the world. It's like watching taped football games from the 1980s. Maybe some of the best games ever played were from the 1980s, but I'd still rather watch the modern NFL.

John Larsen created the biggest vacuum when he retired. Nobody does what he did. Why? He was incredibly popular. To some extent, the Infants filled that void. But they don't really fulfill what John Larsen did. John Dehlin has changed the format of his show quite a bit, but he rarely if ever dives into the meat of the Church. He takes a much more surface level approach, which is good, but not the same.

Maybe there isn't demand for this quality content that is lacking (if it is lacking). Maybe there is no supply of people who can do it. I don't know. But my concern is that there is a void. If the Infants quit, then John will hold at least half the market share (in terms of listeners). Nationwide, podcasts are better than ever. The material available is outstanding. This generation and the next generation of people transitioning out of the church need more voices to hear from.
