Boston, February 2015. Shit was ridiculous, just like Erie right now. Just a comical amount of snow. Boston literally was running out of places to put it.
You probably heard all the stories about spot-savers
What you probably didn't hear about, were all the people who tried to really play it safe, and just never use their cars, and just leave them there, which is perfectly fine. All the free parking in Boston means you can legit leave your car in the same spot from ~November to April.
But Boston was so fucked by the snow, they needed to clear the streets over and over, and for whatever reason, they decided at random to put up "No parking posters" on streets, with almost no warning. You were just expected to know that you're car would be towed in two days if you didn't move it.
Now, sorry to disappoint but the photo I had of this got lost, but above one of these "No parking posters" was a sign someone put up above. I almost ignored it, as people would straight up write War & Peace on a sign explaining the epic of what they went through to get that spot.
But this was different. It was a really long rant saying they played by the rules and were being asked how ridiculous it was. I can't remember the whole thing but I do remember the last line
"What the fuck do you want me to do Boston City Council? I guess I have to fucking make my car levitate, seeing as the spots are taken or under eight fucking feet of snow."
When you've walked for forty minutes in 20 degree cold with bone-chilling wind, your bar of humor is lowered...significantly, so I was doubled over laughing at this.
I remember this woman was walking by, and in retrospect this was a dumb thing to say, but I said "Hey I don't know you, but you have to read this sign!" and I don't know what struck her about it, but she stops, gets intrigued, walks over with her laundry she had been carrying, and nearly spilled it all reading it. I'm sure she walked right inside and thought "Wow, that was dumb of me, but damn that fucking sign!"
