Life is Strange - E3 2015 Trailer

Well, well, where to begin...spoilers.

For starters, let's start with Christa. She goes missing at one point. Most players assume that it will be a plot point. Nope! Barely mentioned in Episode 2 and then zip.

Regarding the goal of the game. Season 1 was to find a boat. Season 2? "To...survive! Yeah! That's it!" In the first episode of the season, they mention Wellington, but it's never really driven home that it was the overall plan. We get introduced to Kenny, and then we get caught by Carver and then a baby gets born, it's just a mess of events that don't contribute to something meaningful. Plus the fact the ending derives from final player choice rather than resulting from a cumlation of choices is, in my opinion, lazy and stupid.

Third, the choices. There are moments to which choices never really felt like it mattered, or contributed to any derivitive character development. I think the worst cases off the top of my head are in Episode 3 (choosing to watch Carver die), Episode 4 (choosing to stay or go immediately after the baby's birth), and Episode 5 (going after or covering Luke). They never resulted in any meaningful change, whatever happens is inevitable and is out of your reach. Season 1 suffered from the same thing but they at least made the majority of choices distinct, memorable and effective emotionally.

Fourth, the characters, oh lord the characters. You are able to save Luke's bland best friend in one episode but in the later ones he gets only one line or two in before he gets offed in an oddly nonchalant matter. Luke never mentions him afterwards or shows any meaningful mourning about his death. Sarah, a girl that is Clementine's age, has decent character development before she's suddenly offed. It's really fucking infuriating and confusing when you have a character that appears to be affected by the player in a number of ways die when her personal arc doesn't feel finished. Depending on the circumstances, you get either one line apologizing for her death or three, and that's it, no characters being affected by it other than "gosh I'm so sad." Bonnie, for some fucking reason, gets super interested in Luke in the last episode and goes on a nonsensical rage against you when he dies. It's stupid because it was never indicated before this episode at ALL that she likes him, and that she thinks Clementine is an asshole who doesn't do anything after Luke gets offed. Kinda stupid considering that, as she's the player avatar, she does so much shit for the group despite being the youngest.

Overall, a really bad game in writing. I'm actually looking forward to Season 3 in hopes that'll it'll improve or that it'll be as shitty as Season 2 and I can laugh my ass off.
