Looking at how complicated and hard it has become to get started and get ahead because we have so many more older workers still holding on to their positions and jobs they have.

Found this on another forum:

Here is my take on the foreign job takers. Im an electrical engineer. Do mostly power electronics and displays. Got my first job in 1978. By 1990 my salary was over 150k. I was worth it. I made the companies I worked for tens of millions of dollars. I had head hunters constantly trying to steal me away from other companies. If I talked about leaving the company I worked for they usually gave me a raise and so I stayed. I did move about every 4 years. It was the way it was in those days. You didnt get experience by working in the same place. After the first gulf war started companies laid of lots of people. If you were good at what you did they wanted to hire you back on a contract basis. It was fine with me because they paid me more and if I got the job done quicker I made more money. Until around 2000 this was the way it was. 3 or 6 month job at a time, sometimes the same company sometimes different one. Then work started to decline. Less and less jobs to do. Ended up working about 6 months out of the year. Yet at the same time all I heard was that there was a shortage of engineers??? I always assumed it was other types of engineers. Then around 2005 I started getting hired again full time. But it was almost always as a supervisor for engineers from India. I as to teach them how to do the work and run the project. The full time jobs lasted about a year or so until the project was complete and the Indian guys could maintain it. By 2005- 2010 these jobs turned into full time jobs where I trained some Foreign guys or 3 months then when the company thought they knew enough they just let me go. Today I cant even get a job. The requirements are something like 10 years experience on this or that tech that has only existed for only a year or so along with a $30,000-70,000 salary 80 hours per week. Its really disgusting. There are many jobs offered like this today and of course no real engineer wants them so the companies say there is no one to fill the job and they hire directly from India. You can actually make more money working at mcdonalds with a lot less stress.
