LPT: If you are young and worried about your future, become an electrician/join the trades.

As an industrial electrician in west Texas for 6 years (I’m 28) yes, the money is great (depending who you work for and if you have the right connections. Some companies pay dogshit, and if you can lease a personal truck you get like an additional 20 bucks per hour) but, the job is backbreaking af. The hours are great (or horrible, depending on your perspective, it’s not odd for me to work 80+ hours in a week) the benefits are ok. Again, depends on company. There is no unions in this area. You’re immediately replaceable unless (depending on your personality and reputation) you ingrain yourself and make yourself impossible to replace or likable. In summation, trades are good and necessary in the world. But they aren’t the end all be all. I hate my job and I’m at the point that the money almost isn’t worth it.
