LPT: If your boss or HR tells you that you need to quit or you will be fired, don't quit. Let them fire you.

All generalisations are wrong. ;)

Whether you choose to quit or to be fired depends on a number of factors: which country you live in, your role/career, the sector you're in, where you are in your career, your financial situation, etc.

A person at either end of their career or not earning much may find being fired is a prerequisite to government support that they need, but it makes for a difficult conversation in the next hiring process. Someone focussing on career options or mid/late career may have enough in the bank and find that quitting makes the next hiring process conversation much easier.

What is universally useful is knowing that your employer wants you gone and there's nothing you can do about it. The future of your current role is known, and now you have a choice to make. Having that choice makes the rest much easier.
