LPT request: I'm so incredibly lazy and as a result my life is boring AF, has anyone got advice for this type of thing?

You need to develop discipline. I think you’re asking for a source of motivation, but motivation is fleeting and unreliable. In order to overcome your laziness, you will have to train yourself to do things that you don’t want to do.

If you think of something you should be doing (for example writing a paper for a class) you will have to ask yourself why you’re not doing it. Is the answer “because I’m lazy”? Do it anyways. What are you risking by doing something you don’t enjoy? What are you risking by standing up and walking to the computer and typing words? Even if you start it off half-assed it’s better than doing nothing. And that goes for any chore or activity you don’t feel like doing.

If you’re bored while doing something you don’t enjoy ask yourself why that even matters. If you feel like quitting ask yourself “am I really not capable of doing this?” Build a pattern of justifying to yourself why you’re not doing the things you need to and you’ll start doing them because laziness is never justifiable.

I also suggest that you stop playing video games. I used to use video games to distract myself from the guilt of laziness. Video games are a double edged sword because they are incredibly fun and an excellent way to escape reality, but that is also their largest problem. Video games offer so much enjoyment per hour of time that a lot of other activities are not worth doing in comparison. Once you develop more discipline you will be able to play video games again, but I would refrain completely until you do. This will force you to come face to face with your boring life and you will want to change it.

No one else in the world can make you overcome your laziness. You alone have the power.

I know this sounds ridiculous but go watch the Shia Lebeouf “Just do it” video. Watch it every day. That is literally all you need to do. If you don’t feel like doing something JUST DO IT.

Laziness is not a disease and it is not a handicap. You can do this.
