<TriggerWarning> What are some harsh truths that r/csMajors needs to hear? </TriggerWarning>

Don't grind so hard you forget to smell the roses. It's good to have goals and push for the top but what happens when you make it there?

I personally have seen so many people and been at this position myself in life where you make it to the absolute top only to realize there's nothing above you. There's no more hill to climb.

So what do you do after reaching senior+ at FAANG is it time to start your own company and go climb another mountain?

My point at a certain point you reach the top and the only way forward is to either enjoy the view or trudge back down the valley to climb a higher mountain. That's when the unfortunate reality will set in that life is more important than work.

So, chill out, go get laid, get a BF/GF. Meet new people. Do fun things. Drink some beer. Go to Iceland and watch the northern lights. Take a year off. Move to that city you've always wanted to. Start a new hobby. Go to therapy. Get your teeth cleaned on Wednesday even though you're going to miss standup. Use all the perks and benefits. Take all your vacation days and if it's unlimited PTO take a week of a quarter at least.
