Mayor Jokes About Rape, Brags About Death Squads, Gets Elected President of the Philippines

Oh come on. Anyone of those, not including Binay, would have been better. I'm saying this at this moment because I can be wrong (and I really hope I am).

Im only going to talk about Roxas because he was number 2 in the race and probably gets the most hate. It's really sad how people can label him incompetent. I disagree. Judging from his credentials, accomplishments, and platforms, I believe he had a more realistic and long term approach in running the country. But this is a guy who can say nothing right. During the debate, he presented very strong arguments and plans for the country. However, instead of commenting on his platform, people criticized him for looking too rehearsed. Duterte, on the other hand, had no clear response to how he will accomplish his promises. When asked about how he will achieve his goals, his answer is a long the lines of "I'll just do it."

Most of Roxas' comments on his incompetence is because of the events during Yolanda. Sure, the government did not smoothly handle situation. But, Roxas became the sole face of the blame and the criticisms were exaggerated. He did an okay job. Not great but not horrible. First, no one predicted the magnitude of Haiyan. Second, I believe the local government are the ones that truly failed Tacloban.

Theres a lot wrong with Roxas too. I'm not blind to his mistakes. Also, he's out of touch and has horrible PR. People don't want his current administration to win because they want immediate results. They're unhappy that they haven't seen immediate change in the 6 years Roxas' administration. As if you can change an entire country in 6 years after decades of corruption.

If Duterte can give the immediate results that the people want, then you're right he is the better candidate. I just find it too difficult to belive that you can get rid of crime in 3-6 months like Duterte promised.
