Do most narcissists, people with NPD, or BPD become self aware?

I don’t think you will find that data because unaware narcissist are typically not diagnosed.

It’s pretty much the M.O. to blame shift and be in denial so it’s not only that they deny it’s that they experience the world that way so it would be the same as you questioning your own experiences it feels like you are being gaslighted.

There are a number of diagnosed Narcissist that are now self aware many times the narcissist knows they are struggling with something but they don’t think it’s NPD but they will know they are depressed or have panic attacks or high anxiety etc. They will know their relationships keep falling apart and they can’t keep a job or their job is all they have etc. etc.

Many come in contact with the mental health field involuntarily through the legal system or being committed to a psych hospital. Borderlines are typically more aware and think they are bad, or rotten, evil, disgusting people and have a terrible time with self hatred and self confidence as well as the Narcissist, a Narcissistic injury if severe enough can cause the narcissist to become suicidal. So as you can see there are many many ways of discovering you are a narcissist and from there it’s a matter of accepting it and deciding you want a better life
