Does being a minority make you more likely to murder someone? I've never seen that side of black people, but maybe you're right.

But that's where these rules eventually end up. One of the biggest reasons these rules exist is to disenfranchise minorities, keep them out of the voting booth. Then they'll extend it to anyone who protests "violently", as they decide it is, and have their rights taken away permanently. Like those occupy Wall Street morons. Clearly they're a violent threat. Or those voting for Bernie sanders.

Giving no option to rehabilitate since you're permanently removed from participating in democracy or having any basic rights gives no incentive to participate in society at all. It's the same reason people don't understand why inmates have things like television, cable, movie nights, and "benefits", time off for good behavior, or anything else that isn't hellish. If you have nothing good to work for, or things you can take away, you'll end up with anarchy and violence.

Don't like it? Don't commit violent crimes. Not being a dick is super simple stuff.

Like you and your spouse argue and a neighbor says there's a fight going on so you're arrested for assault. Or you forgot you carried a pen knife into a mall and now you had a concealed weapon charge when it falls out of your pocket. Or a drunk gets Ina fight with you and you knock him in his ass. Or you got in a schoolyard fight at 16 and are tried as an adult.

See the problem with stupid ideas like that, is that it only works in a fantasy world of honest politicians, law-abiding cops, and a perfectly fair legal system. Someone getting mugged for their wallet isn't equal to some one losing eighty years of their life, without any recourse, under the delusion that it will make a difference.

If you're going to support permanent punishments for finite crimes, death penalty everyone above a misdemeanor, at least that removes the criminal permanently.
