My parents and two sisters were killed by a drink driver. I'm SICK of the fucking hero worship of Michael Phelps.

I can't imagine being in your situation. I lost my 20 year old cousin to a drunk driver almost 16 years ago now, and I haven't gotten over that. I can't imagine losing my entire family in one accident.

A while after my cousin died, her brother was driving home from a party in the morning. He thought he was being responsible and stayed overnight when he couldn't find a safe way home, but didn't realise that his blood alcohol level was still above the legal limit despite feeling sober. He got caught with a DUI and no one took it harder than him.

People make mistakes. My cousin rarely partied and doesn't drink anymore, but he got a DUI. He's a fantastic dad and a lovely person, but he will never forget the fact that he drove over the alcohol limit.

I think if someone fucks up once and uses that as an opportunity to make themselves better, they don't need everyone else holding it against them. The person who killed my cousin was a drunk and he didn't even have a license because he'd been caught drink driving before. I don't think that everyone who gets a DUI should be painted with the same brush.
