Hi there! A calorie deficit isn't fasting, it is simply creating a deficit between the number of calories your body burns just being a human, and the amount of calories you put in through food/drink. If you take in less than your body burns daily, you are creating a deficit. No need for fasting or starving. First, figure out your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure), I use mytdee.com though there are many to choose from and then aim to eat at least 500 calories less than that per day to create an average of 1lb a week of weight loss. Eating 1000 less calories than that per day should net around 2lb weight loss per week, just don't go below around 1,200 calories. Next you will want an app to help you track exactly how many calories you are eating. MyFitnessPal is the most common one around here, but again, there are others. You have to log everything you take in from drinks like soda and coffee with creamer and sugar, to foods including the oil and butter they are cooked in. That can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but the peace of mind is worth it. It's so easy to surpass your TDEE when you aren't tracking, so that should be a good starting point. After that you may want to invest in a decent food scale, you can get them fairly cheap on Amazon, $12-$15, so that if a package says a serving size is 93 grams, you can be pretty close to exact.

You can eat foods you like, sometimes you just have to eat less of them, or find alternatives that are acceptable to you.
